is on rehabilitation and returning the individual to the community.

Neurological Disorders Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebrovascular Accidents "Stroke",
Parkinson's Disease.
Preakness not only welcomes people afflicted with MS, but
we are one of the leading facilities providing this type of
care in the area. Our care for adults suffering from MS has
earned praise and recognition from the Greater North Jersey
Chapter of the National MS Society. - On our Young Adult Unit, we feature specialized programs
designed to meet the interests and demands of our younger
residents who have become disabled due to acute traumatic
or chronic disease.
Respiratory / Pulmonary Care
Services Preakness employs a Board Certified Pulmonologist who provides
a tailored, cost effective program for the following: Tracheostomy
Management and Weaning, Non-invasive ventilation (BIPAP, CPAP),
and COPD Management. Our Respiratory Care Practitioners provide
Pulmonary Function Testing, Arterial Blood Gases and Pulse
Oximetry. Educational programs for caregivers and residents
are provided for topics such as Aerosol Therapy, Oxygen Administration,
Tracheostomy Care and Respiratory Equipment.
Hospice & Palliative
Care For those families interested in a holistic and supportive
approach to the end stage of life, Preakness offers hospice
service on premises.
Alzheimer's Care Preakness provides quality care for people who suffer from
many types of dementia including Alzheimer's disease. We provide
an in-depth, sensitive approach to families facing the struggle
against dementia. Our staff works with top physicians who
specialize in the treatment of dementia and who will develop
customized care programs for the individual. We also offer
a dementia support group for caregivers and are affiliated
with the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
Mental Health Services Preakness features a unique geriatric-psychiatric program
with specially trained staff who are skilled in addressing
the needs of the elderly mental health resident.
Respite Care For the caregiver who needs a break from the daily responsibilities
of caring for a loved one at home, Preakness offers short
term Respite Care for stays of a maximum of two weeks.
